Touche Amore

So I thought the Barlfy gig was one of the best…until last night Touche Amore were INCREDIBLE! Even in a slightly awkward venue with an annoying barrier the show was amazing.

Starting with the spine chilling lyrics of Pianos Become the Teeth where every word comes from the inner depths of the heart, giving goosebumps as you relive every word with frontman Kyle Durfey. This followed by the amazing Touche Amore, Jeremy Bolm with his general awsomeness and heart warming smiles, the energy in the room was alive. I felt alive which of late is a rather nice feeling. The little taster of new material leaves me extremely excited for the future…I just wish I could see them again…now…please…

Slight annoyance…

I feel the need to share this with people as it is really grating on me….

I love going to shows, the music, the crowd everything. Being part of putting the shows together is even better.

Experiencing what goes on behind the scenes and all the work that goes into putting a show on, however small, makes me appreciate the experience even more. The majority of people put these shows on because they love the music and want to provide a platform for the bands playing. Its not always about making a huge profit to take home. However, it does cost money to put these together and that money does have to come back so that no one is out of pocket. This money comes from the fans that turn up to the shows.

Promotors work very hard to get these shows together and to get the people down there. It takes alot of pushing from all parties involved to get the word out. No matter how many people say they are going you never know until the night whether 20 people will show or 100. No matter how hard you push something you can never guarentee how many people will actually be there (the ones that dont show are clearly missing out).

My point is that I thought that this was about community, everyone working together so that the bands can keep playing (and can afford to keep playing) the shows that we all love. Every show I go to you see all the familiar faces, the same faces you might see on the train or the street where you exchange a knowing look like your all part of some secret underground society that the everyday world is oblivious to. We all need to support each other, we need to support the bands and we need to support the promotors that are putting their own money at risk so that these shows can happen.

I do not class putting a comment on an events page for a truly awsome gig slating the venue very supportive? If you dont like the venue of a particular gig there is no need to press this view on others. There have been venues that I do not particularly like that have hosted some of the best shows I have ever been to. If the bands are awsome and the people are awsome then the show will be awsome no matter where it is played.
